During the month of August, I continuned to post photos from my late June trip to a private ranch in the Laramie Mountains of Wyoming. During the 4 day trip, I captured a diverse collection of landscapes, featuring beautiful sunsets, rushing waters of the Laramie River and Bluegrass Creek, rocky formations in the foothills, and the flora in bloom. The trip underscored for me the importance of taking a closer look at places that are often overlooked as scenic locations.
My top social media post during August was this view below of Bluegrass Creek in the late afternoon, as thunderstorms encroached over the foothills. The lush vegetation along the creek stands in contrast with the dry desert background, and the thunderstorms add a moodiness to the scene.
Two black-and-white compositions of granite outcrops on the rolling hills were my second and third most popular posts. I've been trying to feature a new black and white photo each Monday on my posts. The monochrome photos have been particularly popular on Vero. These photos were taken about two hours after sunrise, in that time period where the light is starting to go flat but still offers some nice directional light and deep shadows. I find the black and white treatment in this light to be very favorable to the clear skies, which would render as a relatively uninteresting blue shade if edited in color.
These photos were actually taken less than 5 minutes apart, and the photo below is the same rock formation as the one above, on the opposite side and lit from a different direction.
Thanks for your interest in my photography and for taking the time to read this blog post!
