I've just returned from a road trip though northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, where we toured scenes of natural beauty and historial significance. A tour down the old Route 66 highway through Tucumcari, New Mexico turned up a number of photogenic relics from the Route 66 era, both restored and abandoned. Two days in the Santa Fe area were filled with historic church and museum visits, followed by an excursion to the Chaco Canyon Cultural Center in northwest New Mexico which was far enough off the beaten path to allow up-close access to the historical Pueblo ruins at the site. Our drive up to Colorado featuredd stops at the Aztec Ruins National Monument, and photographing scenes of natural beauty at Angels Peak badlands and Shiprock. In Colorado, we visited more ruins at Mesa Verde National Park, drove over the continental divide at Wolf Creek Pass, and finished up at Great Sand Dunes National Park.
Aside from the stops at the gas pumps where diesel fuel was as high as $5.89 per gallon, the trip was very relaxing and offered a wide variety of photographic subjects. Some of my favorites from the trip are shown below.
